Workshops “Introduction to Intellectual Property Rights and Technology Transfer” at the Nencki Institute

On June 2nd, The Nencki Institute organized a seminar, which provided basic information on technology transfer processes.

This introductory seminar described the technology transfer process in an academic basic research setting: an overview (with examples) about the different types of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR); the criteria required for filing patent application(s); introduction to Material Transfer Agreements (MTAs) and Confidentiality [Non-Disclosure] Agreements (CDAs/NDAs) . The seminar also covered the “does” and “don’ts” for innovators working in an academic setting and ways of dealing with commercial partners. The seminar was presented by dr Birgit Kerber, who works as a Business Development Manager at EMBL Enterprise Management Technology Transfer GmbH (EMBLEM), which is an affiliate and the commercial arm of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL).
